2020 Japan Artist Residency Exhibition

Komorebi was the closing exhibition for my artist-in-residence in Itoshima Japan, during February 2020.
A series of glass sculptural works was created using various gold leaf, enamel and acrylic paints to share four different environments of Itoshima. Each work delivered compositions of abstract forms created using hand made tools built from branches, bark, leaves or fronds collected from the natural environment. Each tool created its own desirable effect.
To create the size for gilding, rainwater was collected from each environment to use in all works during the residency. Rainwater from Itoshima produced an incredibly bright gild.
Using local paints, collected rainwater, up-cycled timber and brushes made from the environment in Itoshima truly gives these works a strong sense of place. With close to all materials used being from Itoshima, these works share so much about the stunning peninsula.
